Carved Wayward Celadon Tall Vase
Austria based ceramicist Matthias Kaiser, studied at Parsons school of design in NY and at Vienna´s university of applied arts, and apprenticed with two japanese master potters in Seto and Karatsu. The lower portion of this tall stoneware vase has a considerably greater wall thickness than the domed upper part. The two were joined and .6" deep groves were then carved into the thicker bottom half of the piece. with its eccentric chimney-like neck. Iron ore particles in the clay create a stunning natural decoration where they interact with the celadon glaze.
