Mudra Turtle Vase
Austria based ceramicist Matthias Kaiser, studied at Parsons school of design in NY as well as Vienna´s university of applied arts, and apprenticed with two japanese master potters in Seto and Karatsu. For the Mudra turtle vase, two bowl-shaped parts were joined at the rims to make the shape, with an opening constructed in an eccentric position near the top. Made from australian porcelain clay that fires to pure white and covered with a wheat straw ash based madara glaze, the piece was refired for optimal glaze effect, with the glaze drops stop just short of the foot. This piece is a striking, large centerpiece.
