Exhibition: The inaugural exhibition from International Objects - a new platform working towards diminishing the idea of keeping art and design separate is Local Objects, a group show with work created by artists and designers working in the greater New York City area.
Book: I love the images in this new book from photographer Peggy Nolan of her raising her 7 children and the everyday in between moments. Good gift idea for Mother’s Day.
Life Hack: We spoke about mending recently in our How To article with Brooklyn based store Sharktooth and I was happy to see Remodelista’s trend story about how showing mending throughout the home is happening more.
Small Business: The aforementioned article also reminded me of somewhere I have been meaning to go to, Tatter, a textile library that looks incredible in neighboring Carroll Gardens.
Article: For the many Charlotte Perriand fans out there, an article from her daughter Pernette’s point of view about life growing up with her mother and how she is still involved with her designs.
Gift: I think wrapping a piece of fruit / food like these delicately wrapped pears would make a beautiful gift when going over to someone’s home.
Exhibition: I just read about this upcoming exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, Africa Fashion, celebrating fashion from the country from the 1950s to the present. It doesn’t open until June but I have it bookmarked for when it does.
Snack: We try very hard in our household to eat only local in season fruit, but with a deep addiction to fruit (especially berries) and my very pregnant current state I caved and ordered these blueberries that were recommended from Dan Barber. They are very very good.
Garden: An article about the ceramicist Frances Palmer’s love for growing dahlias is really making the case for me, if you have a little bit of space to do so she plants hers in mid May.
Activity: I have not thought about doing this since childhood but after coming across these vegetable print images I am going to do so soon with my daughter.
